IADP-Partner Arup developed the Science Centre at University College, Dublin. The new Science Centre in UCD opened its doors to Students and Staff in September 2013. The building is designed to support UCD’s ambition to establish a vision for Science in Ireland in the 21st century by integrating education, research, and innovation to develop life-enhancing products, services, policies, and solutions to global problems.
The project includes the development of new laboratory space and the refurbishment of existing buildings in the Science district. The existing and new science centre buildings have been fully integrated by incorporating a new atrium with a feature spiral stair and cantilever collaborative space pods. One of Arup’s key contributions was helping to fulfil the client’s goal of redeveloping the centre while keeping the existing teaching and research facilities operational during the construction process.
