IADP-Partner UNStudio has recently designed a new urban campus in the heart of Amsterdam’s city center, located strategically next to the main train station Amsterdam Centraal on the Oosterdokseiland. This area in Amsterdam aspires to be a lively environment where people can meet, live, work and play. Oosterdokseiland is one of the largest urban projects and innovation areas in Western Europe, spanning 225,000 m². The last sub-plan of the masterplan consists of a technological hub, specifically designed to encourage personal encounters between people, and includes 72,500 m2 of floor area for public facilities, apartments and additional office space for the internet technology company: It is envisioned that the Oosterdokseiland development will be 100% completed and in use by the end of 2020.

Ben van Berkel: “The design for this fully integrated new urban campus is envisioned as a highly multifunctional living and working environment, enriched with special amenities and a public program mix. The urban gesture of the building weaves together with the existing streets, while the east side of the building will become a recognizable emblem for Oosterdok.”

Oosterdokseiland is an inspiring and innovative mix of living, working, studying, recreation and entertainment for residents and visitors to Amsterdam. In recent years Tech-companies including Vodafone, TomTom and have settled here. Facilities such as the Conservatory, the Public Library, a hotel and a broad range of restaurants and cafes make the area attractive to a wider urban audience.
